The bicap system is a bipolar coagulation probe which was originally introduced for gastro intestinal and pulmonary endoscopic surgery, mainly for its self-adjusting energy system ensuring reliable depth of thermal injury. For gynaecological endoscopic surgery a 5 mm rigid prototype probe was developed with a central suction-irrigation channel. In this video the theoretical background of the different modes of energy used in operative gynaecological laparoscopy are thourougly discussed and our first experience using the bicap probe for the treatment of ovarian endometriotic cysts and total enucleation of benigns cysts is demonstrated.
