Leo, a man in his 70s, performed by Gilles Pelletier, tells about his experiences. He had considered suicide several months before. He tought that his life had no meaning : he could no longer work, had lost his beloved wife and had no friends. The emptiness he felt was unbearable and anguish was overwhelming. He tells how his suicidal thoughts developed. We then learn how he was able to gradually change his life, with help from others, and develop a positive outlook and meaningful activities. This drama, wich is based upon actual situations, is complemented by two interviews : a woman tells of her mother's suicide attempt and a volunteer shares the emotional story of a woman she visited for several years who had killed herself. Two experts comment upon the stories and help us understand how the elderly become suicidal, what can be done to identify suicidal risk. They suggest methods for prevention of suicide with older persons. - The primary purpose of this video is to inform about suicide and the elderly. A guide for conducting a discussion or workshop using the video is included as well as a computer disk with complementary material and information.
