Abnormalities of the splanchnic veins are frequent in patients with chronic liver disease. These modifications may compromise liver transplantation, or even make it impossible. Nowadays detailed pre- and intra-operative investigation, eversion thrombectomy, use of homograft interposition between donor portal vein and superior mesenteric veins and a cavocaval implantation allows safe transplantation of an allograft even in the case of extended venous thrombosis. These technical adaptations are shown in this film.
