Preimplantation diagnosis is a genetic diagnosis carried out on the embryo. Analysis of cells taken from the embryo can reveal gene mutations responsible for diseases such as cystic fibrosis and Huntington's chorea. Preimplantation diagnosis has been authorised in France since July 1999.
