In 2004, 2.3 million people died of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, the means to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS and to care for people living with HIV/AIDS are know. Why is the disease continuing to take such a toll on the poorer populations? The answer lies in awareness, accessibility and affordability. The World Health Organization, UNAIDS and their partners have set a specific goal of placing 3 million people livint with HIV/AIDS on antiretroviral treatment by the end of the year 2005. This is known as the 3 by 5 Initiative./ If this aim is achieved, by the end of 2005, half of all people in need of treatment globally should be receiving ARVs. This film is about the way in wich the 3 by 5 Initiative has changed the life of people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Pyanne, a singer who is now an AIDS activist, Maria, Christine and Juan have all learned that they can be HIV-positive and still live positively. The countries of sub-Saharan Africa who have joined this initiative are doing everything to support it with the help of the 3 by 5 partners; they have helped thousands of people to get their life back.
