Marie Gendron, a native of Quebec, is a Doctor of Gerontology and the founder of "Baluchon Alzheimer".
This service, which is the only one of its kind, helps people who care for a loved one who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease.
It is unique, because in addition to home help services, which have been in existence for a long time, Baluchon Alzheimer enables the caregivers to leave for an average of 1 to 2 weeks, to rest, look after themselves or take a holiday, leaving their loved one in the care of someone specially trained for this task.
Baluchon has been working in Quebec since 1999 and in Belgium since the end of 2003.
This film is an interview with Marie Gendron, who shares with us her experience of the "Alzheimer mystery", with great kindness.
Madame Auriel also tells about her experience as a beneficiary of the services of Baluchon Alzheimer: the possibility of getting away for a while, and the assistance given by the "baluchonneuse" enable her to understand her husband better, and keep him at home.
To be able to communicate with Alzheimer's sufferers, it is essential to bear in mind that this is a neurological disease, but Alzheimer's does not affect the heart!
This kind of optimism and emotion changes our view of the disease forever.
