1000 km west of Shanghai, Bozhou has become a major crossroad for Chinese medicinal plants. The film follows a couple of peasants, five shop-keepers and two doctors living around the market in the streets of a surprizing town, a relevent example of the recent dynamism of the smaller cities of central China.
Since the begining of the 1980's, Bozhou has developed an activity considered traditionnal in Anhui province. Today 70% of the region's inhabitants live off the growth, trade, processing and prescription of medicinal plants. "Bozhou, at the crossroad of Chinese medicinal plants" (English title) invites us to discover the new face of Chinese medicine through its florishing economy, the essence of its philosophy, the influence of political decisions and also the changes in the Chinese way of life.
