In the first episode, we follow the baby-boomers in their training; then we accompany them to Nepal for their acclimatisation to high altitude. Over a seven day period, they walk at altitudes of between 1,700 and 3,200 metres. But, at the end of the seventh day, one of them sees his hopes reduced to dust. Suffering from sleep apnoea he is forced to abandon, to his great disappointment. For the remaining eleven members of the expedition, the ascent continues. And the conditions are not easy: torrential rain, intense cold, but more particularly, they start to feel the repercussions of high altitude conditions. The higher the climb, the weaker their bodies become due to oxygen starvation. At 4,600m, one of them is especially badly affected and has to abandon as well. What are the effects of high altitude on the body? How does the human body manage to survive above 6000 metres? Will the baby-boomers meet the challenge laid down to them by the researchers?
