BIOPROSPECTING MARINE AROUND THE WORLD

In Treasures from the Sea (TREATS), we follow scientists on their world wide search for new medical drugs and industrial enzymes. We travel from tropical reefs to cold Arctic waters in search of new marine organisms and unexplored life forms that might contain interesting compounds, which could lead to new drugs against diseases such as cancer.

We have always found drugs in nature, but until now we have been searching on land only. Now scientists are opening the biggest drugstore: the ocean. Here we find the largest biodiversity, and a lot of organisms with biochemical defences that may be used for medical purposes.
