Laurent Danon-Boileau is a linguist, psychoanalyst and author. At the Alfred-Binet Centre, he conducts a method he calls psychoanalytic semiotics. After having differentiated between language impairments and communication disorders, Mr. Danon-Boileau details, using many clinical examples, the way he works with autistic children, creating circumstances that initiate interaction, not trying to interpret, receiving what the child proposes, using onomatopoeias, generating new ideas… An eclectic at heart, he admits that theorisation can help the therapist as long as it does not drift into bigotry. Yet, as a realist, he underlines that varying methods is important, since working with autistic children is very demanding.
