She was the founder in 1974 of the Guidance Centre at the Saint Pierre University Hospital in Brussels, and is the chief of psychiatry at the Saint Pierre University Hospital, as well as professor in child psychiatry at the ULB Schools of Medicine and Psychology.
In this first film from the “Psychiatrists’ memoirs” collection, Nicole Dopchie retraces the adventure from the birth of child psychiatry in Belgium through its development, in which she was one of the main pioneers. From her desire, in the 1950’s, to practice “psychiatry for children” to the creation 20 years later of the first chair of child psychology at the University, a position she was the first to hold, Nicole Dopchie describes her career and this profession that she has “in her blood”, her combats, her pride and her doubts.
It is also the portrait of an extraordinary person who has left her mark on the history of Belgian child psychiatry by opening up new roads, breaking down barriers in practices, developing multi-purpose teams and especially introducing new ideas…
