What can be done in the event of foetal malformation or an uncertain diagnosis? This programme takes us through the work of specialists at the Hôpital Necker. The story of three couples gives us a disturbing insight into the limbo world of prenatal medicine. Based on medical and scientific advances, embryos that were previously left to grow in the shelter of the mother’s womb have become a focus of study. But, while it is now possible to examine an embryo, treatment remains difficult. Doctors can still be puzzled by images that remain difficult to decipher. Having produced many documentaries broadcast by ARTE (Ailleurs si j'y suis, Nicole et Jean, Le chemin des autres… ), Juliette Cazanave explores this grey area by immersing herself in the Prenatal Screening Centre at the Hôpital Necker. This state-of-the-art unit is home to scientists, gynaecologists, child psychiatrists, etc. The film allows them to speak, observes their work and follows the story of three couples.
