A film by Steve McQueen (1 hour 39 mins)
With Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan, James Badge Dale…
Best Male Actor and International Critics’ Awards – Venice Festival 2011

Brandon is a 30-something, living alone in New York, who works long hours.
His everyday life is eaten up by a single obsession: sex.
When his sister Sissy, a slightly clueless singer, unexpectedly arrives in New York and moves into his apartment, Brandon finds it increasingly difficult to hide his real life.
“From a difficult subject, which could have rapidly descended into voyeurism or opportunism, Steve McQueen creates a film of exemplary sobriety. The portrait of its unhinged Don Juan is that of a sick and shameless brother (which inspired its title: Shame), with whom we can deeply empathise. This is precisely the magic of cinema, when it is handled with grace. Far from judging his morals, we suffer with Brandon. We understand this sad person and even enter into the very heart of his drama.
A great film of rare elegance. Masterful, tense, sober and yet always on a fine thread, Shame, which is punctuated with solo piano music by Bach (and Glenn Gould), is carried off by a fantastic actor, Michael Fassbender, and was certainly a revelation at the 68th Mostra, in a similar way to A Dangerous Method.” Nicolas Crousse (Le Soir)
Please note, this film is not suitable by children aged under 12.
The film will be followed by a discussion on “sexual addiction”:
