Shaking a baby less than 1 year old may generate some very severe neurological lesions. When a child cries excessively or when an adult is exasperated, the baby may held by the chest and shaken so that his head jerks backward and forward. When the brain hits the skull during the shaking, pericerebral hemorragic lesions lead to disturbances of brain development. This video describes the circumstances of shaking, physiopathological mechanisms, clinical presentation and various sequelae of shaken baby syndrome. This film is for parents and child health providers.
