It's the end of the 1990s. Nicola has been stuck in his hospital bed for several years, suffering from a degenerative disease that has reduced his capacity to move and even breathe. While obviously strictly circumscribed, his hospital life is nevertheless abdundant in relationship. His doctor, Daniele, who looks after him, has become his best friend, while his sister Giulia visits regulary. However, this is not sufficient for Nicola, and with the arrival of a new portable breathing system he finds that he's suddenly able to get out of his hospital bed, for the first time in years.
Alexandre Jollien was born in Switzerland in 1975 with a cerebral motor infirmity. Today a writer and philosopher, he has published two books "L'Eloge de la faiblesse" (Cerf, 1999) and "Le métier d'homme" (Le Seuil, 2002). For more than a year and a half, Joël Calmettes met with him. The film reveals an outstanding personality and an exceptional life, and echoes one of Alexandre Jollien's reflections: " I think that one of the opportunities in my life was to have felt weak and to have worked towards more progress".
