When the patient takes charge of his illness – as seen in Pulsations TV No. 120 Sharing responsibility for your treatment – this presents a challenge for many people with chronic illnesses. 30 years ago, the GUH were pioneers in the development of therapeutic education. Based on patient motivation and involvement, this alternative approach to care, first used to manage diabetes, is now used for 35 other conditions. We find out more by hearing about the experiences of Claire, Stéphanie and Alex.
"Connection to life" is a document about the difficult life of a brave man who works for years without both kidneys and dialysis gives himself. This is the story of a man of iron will that does not allow apathy to win, barely surviving financially, and not only his lack of love with which he feeds the family. This movie, dedicated to hemodialysis, is part of the documentary series « 50 Years of Research and Francophones Innovations in Nephrology ». This series, based on a concept of Pr Deteix and Pr Ronco describes the major findings and the progress of these 50 years. Research is honored in all aspects : basic, translational and clinical as well as in its applications in pediatric and adult nephrology, dialysis and transplantation.
Damien, Valérie and Jordana are three young Belgians from Liège. For different medical reasons they all suffer from terminal renal failure. Their life depends on dialysis (renal replacement therapy). This technique purifies their blood through a constant contact with the hospital environment. "My life under dialysis" shows different moments from their lifes through their studies, professional activities, sport relaxations, relations within their families and their love relation.
