The day after his eighteenth birthday, Simon woke up with a stabbing pain in his stomach and was hospitalised with viral hepatitis of unknown origin. Three weeks later another even more alarming situation arose: the bone marrow generated by his red blood cells developed aplasia. Placed in isolation at the Charles Bruneau Cancer Center in Montreal, Simon awaited a transplant that may save him: donation of bone marrow from his sister Léa. Just after the transplant, he had to fight a severe fungal infection.
