In the field of mental health, diagnosis and pain management have long been neglected or even ignored due to numerous, longstanding misconceptions. Nowadays, common practices are changing and gradually introducing somatic medicine to medical care. Researchers in France and Quebec have showed that the painful sensation does exist, but is perceived and evolves differently depending on the type of mental pathology.

This DVD is a very comprehensive tool-box for educators in the field of pain. It is made up of:
- Audio and video testimonials from children, parents and health professionals.
- A customisable slideshow (in PowerPoint) for presenting a conference or training session on pain (see summary later on).
- Documentary information related to the slideshow: assessment grids, documents about pain, etc.
Anesthesia is a multi functions job, required to every surgery. With more humanity we could think, eminent specialists help us understand their medical practices and its evolution.
Post operative pain releif is a major item today in the hospital. Thanks to innovative means, the patient may benefit an early rehabilitation.

The diagnosis and prevention of the pain at the new-born baby are recently acquired by many neonatal units. But of others are unaware of them still. This ignorance generally comes of a lack of information or formation. We sought to create a multi-media tool of teaching in the form of the film DVD for all looking after dealing with the new-born baby. This film aims to allow acquisition essentil data concerning to a simple approach on the theoretical and practical data basic of the neonatal pain.
Over the past few years knowledge of pain of its treatment have evolved. The curriculum has incorporated these advances. Medical students at the University of Amiens speak up.
This informational video was filmed in paediatric, surgery, cardiology, onco-hematology, and radiology departments in order to present a variety of situations in which children can receive information by means of interactive play. A number of support materials are shown, including Playmobil characters, dolls, puppets, a CD-rom... Specific information is provided on the neccessary stages for developping a long-lasting project : planning, training, and organisation. Children, parents, and health professionals speak about the effectiveness of this approach.
For several years now in France, doctors have been addressing the subject of pain, a subject for a long time shrugged off, but a subject now at the centre of an increasing number of conferences. Attitudes and mentalities change, however there are several types of pain and some simply cannot be treated. It is the human and psychological reality of pain that the film by Caroline Philibert sets out to show: on one side, the nameless suffering of the patient, on the other, the fears and denial it provokes in those nearby, whether family, medical staff or professional associates.
