A matter of rubber illustrates the reluctance and taboo around the use of condom: lost of sensation, lack of trust, difficulty of use, "omission", shame, religious considerations, prejudice…
An incessant ping-pong between men and women, youth and elders, reveals that the use of the rubber is still far to be unanimous.
This may well be the first time that a group of West African men and women speak openly about a once-taboo subject that has turned into a daily and deadly threat: AIDS. Relationships, dealing with the use of condoms, fears of getting tested for HIV/AIDS, are discussed candidly, making this film an indispensable awareness-raising tool .
