With MY POSITIVE LIFE, Mark Strombach and Salwa Amin give a voice and face to people who have been living with HIV/AIDS for decades, in the first ever film on the subject. Six men and one woman aged between 60 and 72 each tell their own stories: underlying them is the common tale of a long life with the HI-virus. In a thoughtful, astute, sometimes bawdy and amusing manner, the protagonists recall the early days of HIV/AIDS in the 1980s, their fears, and the countless changes in their lives, professions, and financial situations.
Aging frightens us. But beyond appearances, does old age merely represent the end of life? Can aging be seen as a new departure? While our bodies become weaker, growing old can bring a greater sensitivity and awaken new sensations. Revealed in simple moments, aging highlights the fragility of physical existence, but also the intensity of the present moment. All over eighty, the characters strive to adapt to their physical limitations and to accept their changing desires and expectations.
WOMEN'S LUST is about the sexual desires of women of a certain age and their daily struggle to preserve these new-won freedoms. The protagonists are five women from various walks of life who have a variety of needs.
Florence and Jean-Philippe are about to get married; both are heavily handicapped and fully dependent. How can they fulfill their relationship and sexuality in the special establishment that hosts them? This film raises questions about togetherness and closeness, the right to intimacy for the physically and psychically weak, the professionals’ educational mission and the families’ part and responsibility. Questions to fuel debates and bring about more questions, in order to change and improve the quality of life of disabled people.
Each and every one aspires to an emotional and sexual life in order to feel fulfilled. People with degenerative diseases, motor or intellectual disabilities, see their physical handicap to be an obstacle to pleasure. How can they satisfy their desire and imagine a romantic relationship when, from ordinary citizens to politicians, everyone denies their basic needs? “Sex, Love & Disability” approaches these essential questions and considers alternatives, with those who are concerned by the suffering as well as those who are committed to this cause by their side.
