Today, stem cells are virtually presented as a panache, a “miraculous” biological material of the human body which can cure a great number of diseases, from leukemia to Altzheimer's disease. Big enterprises in most countries of the world are encouraging parents to privately store their children’s stem cells, and pay so as to ensure their future as well as that of the family. Where is the line between wishful thinking and reality drawn?
Stem cells are mankind’s great hope for the treatment of diseases that today are incurable. These cells are the foundation of regenerative medicine, which seeks to replace damaged tissues of the human body using similar mechanisms to those naturally used by the body. During the last ten years, most of the science related news has had one clear and absolute protagonist: stem cells.
Why do we die? Immortality was not planned by Nature. It is neither useful to reproduction nor to the perennity of species, but it may not be impossible.
