Aids Palaver treats of HIV, which is always delicate in the countryside as well as in town: a divine curse, a shameful disease that comes from elsewhere…. The beliefs and reactions of the people in the film evoke their fear of the disease and their reluctance to be tested.
This may well be the first time that a group of West African men and women speak openly about a once-taboo subject that has turned into a daily and deadly threat: AIDS. Relationships, dealing with the use of condoms, fears of getting tested for HIV/AIDS, are discussed candidly, making this film an indispensable awareness-raising tool .
